Web Design & Development

A website that does a job, not one that just exists

Designed and built from scratch to load quickly, explain the business clearly and give visitors an obvious reason to get in touch. Yours to own outright at handover.

What this service is

We design and build websites for businesses that need theirs to actually work: load quickly, say clearly what the company does, and make the next step obvious to someone who has never heard of you.

Most sites fail on one of those three, and it is rarely a visual problem. A page can look perfectly good and still leave a visitor unsure what is on offer or who it is for. So we start with the argument the site needs to make, then design around it.

This site is a fair sample of the approach. Custom design, hand-written code, no template underneath it, and the same attention to speed, structure and accessibility we would give yours.

Who it is for

For businesses whose site is holding them back

  • Businesses with an ageing site

The site was fine when it launched. It is now slow, awkward on phones and no longer describes what the business actually does.

  • Companies getting no enquiries

People arrive and leave. Usually the problem is not traffic, it is that the site never makes clear what to do next or why it should be trusted.

  • New ventures that need credibility

A business that is genuinely capable but reads as unproven online, because the site was assembled quickly and looks like everyone else in the category.

What is included

What we handle in every build

These are not upgrades or line items. They are what building a website properly involves.

  • Design made for your content

Layouts drawn around what you actually have to say, rather than your text poured into a theme and trimmed until it fits.

  • Performance treated as a feature

Optimised images, minimal JavaScript and pages that render fast on a mid-range phone over mobile data, which is where most visitors are.

  • Search foundations from day one

Semantic structure, sound heading order, clean URLs, metadata, internal linking and schema built in during the work, not bolted on afterwards.

  • Accessibility as standard

Keyboard navigation, visible focus states, real contrast ratios and proper labelling. It widens your audience and it is the right way to build.

  • Forms that reach you safely

Working contact forms with validation, spam protection and no credentials sitting in the browser where anyone could read them.

  • Something you can maintain

Clean, commented code and a structure that a future developer can pick up. You are not tied to us to change a phone number.

How we approach it

Structure first, because layout is an argument

The order a page makes its points in decides how it should look, not the other way round. We settle what each page has to prove and in what sequence before design starts, which is why the finished site reads clearly instead of just photographing well.

  • Page structure and content order agreed before design
  • Designed in the browser, at real sizes, on real devices
  • Built as reusable components with consistent spacing rules
  • Tested for keyboard, screen reader and reduced-motion use

How it works

From first conversation to handover

  1. Understand the business

What you sell, who buys it, what usually blocks the sale and what a visitor needs to see before they will contact you. The site is designed against those answers.

  2. Structure and copy

We map the pages and the order of the argument before any design happens. Getting the structure right first is what stops a site becoming pretty and unclear.

  3. Design and build

Interface design and development in the same pass, so what gets approved is what gets built. You see real pages in a browser rather than flat pictures of pages.

  4. Test, launch and hand over

Checked across real devices, browsers and screen sizes, then launched. You receive the files, the accounts and a walkthrough of how to run it.

Questions

Questions about building a site

Do you use WordPress or a template?

Not by default. Most of what we build is custom, because a template forces your content into someone else's structure and carries code you will never use, which is usually where the slowness comes from. If a content management system genuinely suits how your team works, we will recommend one and set it up properly.

Who owns the site when it is finished?

You do, completely. The domain, the hosting account and the source files are yours, and they are registered in your name from the start. There is no arrangement where leaving us means losing the site.

Can you write the content?

Yes, and in most cases we should. Structure and copy are the same job: the argument a page makes determines its layout. If you would rather write it yourself, we will give you a clear outline of what each section needs to do.

How long does a website take?

It depends far more on how quickly decisions and content come back than on the build itself. We give you a realistic timeline once we know the scope, and we will tell you which parts depend on you so nothing stalls unexpectedly.

Will it show up on Google?

We build the technical foundations properly: semantic markup, correct heading structure, fast loading, clean URLs, metadata, internal linking and schema. That is what makes a site rankable. Ranking for competitive terms also takes time and content, and anyone promising you a position on a date is guessing.

What happens after launch?

We are available for changes, additions and ongoing work if you want that. There is no mandatory retainer, and the site is built so another developer could take it over if you would rather go that way.

Tell us what the site needs to do

Whether it is a rebuild or a first site, describe the business and what is not working. We will come back with an approach, a timeline and a cost.
